LIBRARY

The Library contains dozens of books, both fiction and non-fiction, manuals, handbooks, guides, etc. There are Scouting Trivia Books, Baden Powell Books, Canadian and British manuals and Philmont Ranch information books, just to a name a few. We have a book entitled Scouting on Two Continents by Major Frederick Russell Burnham D.S.O., Chief of Scouts under Lord Roberts, copyright 1926. Newly acquired is An American Family on the African Frontier The Burnham Family Letters 1893-1896, edited by Mary and Richard Bradford, 1993. There are Boys’ Life Magazines dating back to the 1920s and 1930s, along with Scouting Magazines. There are hundreds of Merit Badge Books, many with the tan covers depicting early editions.

On display are Badge books dating back to 1925. There is Bird Study 1925, which can be compared to the 1969 to present version. Pioneering 1928, had only a design change. Pathfinding 1930, was discontinued in 1952. Handicraft 1930, was changed to Home Repairs in 1943. Rocks and Minerals 1937, was Mining previously from 1911-1937.

There are portraits of Lord Baden-Powell, Otis Chidester, the Otis H. Chidester Memorial Award plaque, and others. Again, photos and plaques are changed on a rotating basis.
